A common question is: What is a ceramic coating?
A ceramic coating is a hand applied liquid that chemically bonds to your vehicle’s paintwork creating a semi-permanent/permanent protective layer that requires far less maintenance than a conventional wax or sealant. Gtechniq ceramic coatings are designed to be chemical and abrasion resistant, offering a lifespan beginning at 5 years. In addition to their protective properties, Gtechniq coatings offer superb gloss levels and hydrophobic properties that makes car washing a breeze.
Does my coating come with a warranty? What does it cover?
Gtechniq ceramic coatings include a guarantee for a minimum of 5 years. The guarantee covers specific problems with the surface of your car such as paint oxidation and staining, helping to extend the new appearance of your car. This damage may occur from bird droppings, bug splatter, or UV damage from the sun.
What about scratches and swirls?
While Gtechniq coatings offer superb abrasion resistance, they are not impervious to damage from automatic car washes, branches, keys, and the like. Ensure that you use appropriate wash methods in order to prolong the life and look of your coated vehicle. Feel free to email us if you have questions about paint safe wash methods or check out our webstore for a multitude of products you can use to maintain your vehicle’s finish!
And stone chips? Should I reconsider paint protection film?
Absolutely not! No matter what anyone tells you, a ceramic coating will not provide sufficient protection against stone chips. The simple answer to this is that any ceramic coating, Gtechniq or otherwise, is too thin to provide a functional barrier to stone chips. Paint protection film (PPF) is a significantly thicker and softer film that will better absorb the impact of a rock to protect your vehicle’s paint from a chip.
Fortunately, we are able to coat over top of the PPF if desired in order to allow your vehicle to have optimal gloss and water shedding abilities in addition to stone chip protection.
